Dawson Joins Clerks, Killshot

“Actress Rosario Dawson (Sin City, Rent) has signed to star in Kevin Smith’s The Passion of the Clerks and the Quentin Tarantino produced Killshot, both for the Weinstein Co., according to today’s Variety.Passion of the Clerks, written and directed by Smith, is a sequel to his cult indie flick Clerks that centers around the characters from the original film. It is set 10 years after the events of the first film. It’s unknown what role Dawson will play.Killshot, based on the novel of the same name by Elmore Leonard, tells the story of a couple who enter the witness protection program and are pursued by a gangster. Dawson reportedly plays the girlfriend of the gangster’s right-hand man (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt). Johnny Knoxville is signed to start as an FBI agent trying to protect the couple. The trade adds that Diane Lane, Mickey Rourke and Thomas Jane are also in talks to join the project.”[ SOURCE ]So after Rent, it looks like with the addition of these two, we have 10 projects to look forward to from Rosario in the next year

Escape From NY

“ROSARIO Dawson bid a tearful goodbye to the Lower East Side on Thursday. The actress (“Rosa” to her friends) sat on the stoop of the tenement where she grew up as a squatter, eating dinner and drinking Cristal with her dad and brother, “Rent” co-star Tracy Thoms and punk-rock poet Tony Lombardi (who’s working on a screenplay based on his years managing Scores). Chaunce Hayden reports in Steppin’ Out magazine that Rosario’s limo driver patiently waited across the street for the starlet to say her goodbyes before taking her to a private jet bound for her new home in California. There were lots of hugs, tears and memories … We’ll miss ya, Rosa!”[ SOURCE ]

The projects page has been fully updated with Rosario’s current work, I’ll take the time out to further explain some of the projects in particular. Little Black Dress is a short she filmed for Glamour magazine. The release date is October 6th, no word exactly where it will be shown but Glamour has said to include it as a DVD insert in their December issue of this year. For more information on A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints you can check the movie info database Spit is a documentary on poetry that is narrarated by Rosario, no word yet on when and where it will be released. Hispanics in Hollywood: More Roles, but More of the Same

“….This summer she is at work on a book about the way the mainstream marketing machine has presented its Latino and Latina stars, starting with Dolores Del Rio in the 1920s, up to such actors as Benicio del Toro and Rosario Dawson in 2005.Dawson is, of course, not strictly Hispanic but of mixed Latina, African American and other heritages. The ethnically ambiguous and their growing prevalence in mainstream films is another of Beltra(n’s research interests. She is beginning to explore the meaning of mixed-race actors in Hollywood and the increasing emphasis on multicultural heritage in contemporary publicity. While her research at this point does not extend to studying audiences, she has noted that the idea of “mixed” heritage often does not compute with most audiences.”Focus groups show that audiences tend to see actors like Dawson, Vin Diesel and Halle Berry as belonging either to one race or another, but not to both,” says Beltran. Her article on multicultural actors appears in the spring 2005 issue of Cinema Journal….”[ SOURCE

Every little bit counts

As all of you know Rosario is always striving to inform others about causes that the world should be aware of, here at Rosario Online, I vow to do the same. The following is a plea from LJ member laughingirl. I’m copying it from her own words, I hope all of you decide to take the time out to read this.”Hi all! Some of you may remember that I posted last month about my experience at the Today Show and getting Anthony Rapp to help me get a bunch of signatures/pictures for an auction I’m doing for The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer…. some of you may not. ;) In any case, if you want the whole story, you can check it out here. Here’s the short story: I’m doing all 8 of The Avon Walks for Breast Cancer this year and trying to raise $25,000. One of the ways I do this is by tracking down celebrities around town and getting them to sign little tags that I attach to stuffed breast cancer awareness bears and auction off. When I can, I also take their picture with the bear and give that to the auction winner, as well. The auctions (along with a bunch of other Broadway folks) launched last night! You can check them out here: http://user.auctions.yahoo.com/show/auctions?userID=lisaspoavonwalk&at=true&alocale=0usSo, please, go take a look and start bidding! Of course, if you can help spread the word, that’s awesome, too! :) THANKS!! :) ”Well you heard her people, do what you can. Click on the “Read More” link to view photos of the cast of RENT with the bear.
