Nominations for RENT and God Sleeps In Rwanda
{nl} “Photojournalist Kimberlee Acquaro is a first-time Oscar nominee for her documentary short subject “God Sleeps in Rwanda.” “I went on assignment to Rwanda for Time magazine the first time in 2000,” Acquaro said. “I knew then that I wanted to make a documentary.” She said the real struggle came after the interviews were done. “You want the world to be as moved as you are,” she said. “Hearing the women tell their own stories is so powerful that you want to share that, you want the world to hear their voices, too.” The filmmaker just had a baby, but she said she is more committed than ever to telling untold stories. “When you have a child, with every fiber of your being you want to protect that little life, and there are so many parents in the world who can’t do it,” she said. “Having a child has compelled me even more.”[ SOURCE ]sidenote: This documentary is narrarated by RosarioRENT has been nominated for Outstaning Film (Wide Release) at the GLAAD Media Awards.
