Rosario Dawson Hosts Darfur Concert Event

Rosario Dawson will host a charitable concert event in conjunction{nl}with Zync Music and Twenty Women For Darfur as part of Global Darfur{nl}Awareness Day. The concert will be held at the Avalon Hollywood, 1735{nl}N. Vine Street, Hollywood, CA, at 8:00 p.m. Many bands have donated{nl}their services for this benefit, including Bushwalla and Bitter:Sweet.{nl}There will be a raffle, door prizes and free drinks until 9 p.m.Several{nl}local celebrities are on the guest list, such as George Clooney, who{nl}filmed in Darfur and who has been very active in encouraging others to{nl}work toward an end to the genocide. Twenty Women For Darfur is a group{nl}of concerned citizens who have formed a coalition aimed at raising{nl}donations for the displaced families in Darfur. Their events also serve{nl}the purpose of educating the public on the conflict taking place in the{nl}region. All proceeds from the September 17th concert event will go to{nl}the International Rescue Committee, a non-profit organization (IRC),{nl}for their efforts in Darfur. {nl}The IRC helps people fleeing racial, religious and ethnic{nl}persecution, as well as those uprooted by war and violence. The IRC{nl}provides water, food, shelter, sanitation and medical care for the{nl}refugees they serve. Voto Latino, a nonprofit organization founded by actor Rosario{nl}Dawson, announced today that it is rolling out the first U.S. cell{nl}phone-based voter registration drive to register an ambitious number of{nl}young American Latinos for the November 2006 elections.
