Rosario Dawson, along with co-star Will Smith, attended the Miami premiere of the new drama, “Seven Pounds”, which opens in theaters on December 19th. The film’s storyline has been mostly kept under wraps, with most materials only stating that Will Smith plays a man who affects the lives of seven strangers. But Dawson was not so tight-lipped at the premiere about the film and her character (readers wanting to avoid spoilers should be forewarned).

“I play Emily Posa. My character is dying,” Dawson tells CNS. “She has congenital heart failure disease. I’m one of the seven strangers that Will Smith’s character reaches out to and tries to change and help. In turn, she changes his life and it’s really a very beautiful pairing. I think the chemistry between these two characters is something very special that you don’t get to see very often.”

Dawson said she spoke with people who have had major heart surgeries, who are on pacemakers, and trauma victims in order to prepare for her role. “I took that information and channeled it into the character,” she said.

Dawson also hopes audiences take a bigger underlying message home with them after watching the tear-jerker. “We need to see how we can connect to each other and have more compassion for the strangers around us and start a feeling of community,” she said. “This movie has a really strong message of that and I hope people really feel that when they see it.”

Dawson, who recently starred in this year’s hit thriller “Eagle Eye” with Shia LaBeouf, is starring opposite Smith on-screen for the second time. They last appeared together in 2002′s “Men In Black II.”

“I hate working with him. I mean that’s just why I keep doing movies with him,” Dawson joked. “I mean you don’t get the opportunity very often to work with people again in this industry. I’ve been really lucky to work with Spike Lee twice and certain people twice.”

Since “Men In Black II”, Dawson has starred in over a dozen more films, including 2005′s movie musical “Rent” and Quentin Tarantino’s throwback thriller “Death Proof.” “Using Will as a marker, it gives you a great perspective on how your life has changed over the years,” Dawson said.
