Rosario Dawson & Eva Longoria Parker Challenge Arizona Immigration Law

Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria-Parker is teaming up with Rosario Dawson, Wilmder Valderrama and a handful of other celebs to take a stand against the Arizona immigration law.

“I haven’t made it a secret that I’m strongly opposed to the Arizona law and I’ve been pretty vocal about it,” Longoria-Parker, 35, says in the PSA for Voto Latinos & Mun2′s ‘United We Win’ campaign. “It’s unfortunate that this immigration issue has been on the national agenda for the past three administrations.”

Dawson — who co-founded Voto Latino in 2004 — tells UsMagazine.com that she brought the stars together to encourage young people to get involved in fighting for Arizona citizens’ civil rights by visiting the polls on November 2.

“We recognize that this isn’t just a Mexican issue or a Latino issue… There are people blogging and Tweeting for everything, from the BP spill to education and healthcare,” Dawson, 31, tells Us. “We’re all buzzing about these things, but unless we’re actually marching to the polls, nothing is going to actually change.”

The Seven Pounds actress compares the goals of Voto Latino’s initiative to those of Martin Luther King, Jr., who encouraged young people to actively make an impact in their communities.

“When you look back at Martin Luther King and the civil rights movement, he got arrested and asked everyone else to get arrested….and people were afraid to step forward,” she says. “Who was going to be the people who stepped up? The people who did were high schoolers because they weren’t afraid of being arrested. We’re all underage, and that was really crucial in getting the civil rights movement going — getting young people’s participation.”

Under the current Arizona law, Longoria-Parker says she worries that racial profiling will lead to discriminatory pursuits of legal citizens.

“I think the biggest misconception is that everybody who is dark or of color is from somewhere else. I’m ninth-generation American. I’m more American than a lot of my Anglo friends,” she says. “If my father got pulled over because of the color of his skin, I could guarantee you I would be outraged.”

That’s exactly why Valderrama says it’s so important to spread the word and take action now.

“We’re really trying to inspire our younger community, of any demographic or culture,” the actor, 30, tells Us. “If we don’t inspire them to understand the platform they have today, we’re going to have two or three more presidencies and we’re going to be playing catch-up to other mistakes. It’s now or never.”

Other celebrities contributing to the campaign — which will debut in September — include Jessica Alba, hip-hop star Common, Amy Smart and Entourage actress Carla Gugino.

So Rosario Dawson and the others support terrorists? By allowing illegal’s to come and go as the please the U.S. cannot keep terrorist out of this country, And as far as profileing, that is garbage. I have to show my drivers licence when a police office asks. In other countries I have to show ID when demanded. So why shouldn’t illegal aliens?

Illegal is illegal. Enough said. This is npot a hispanic thing, or a korean thing , etc. So why make it a racist thing? Apparently either these young ladies are racists, or they do not understand the law.

Why? Are you going on record to say that anyone, being it murderers, child molesters, terrorists, etc. should be allowed to come to this wonderful country? Instead of pitting American against American, why don’t you beautiful ladies find a way to get those that would be a great contriubtion to this great country here legally? I hope it is not because you enjoy calling other Americans racists. Put your convictions out there and show that you really care about EVERYONE INCLUDING AMERICANS. I promise people will respect you more for that.

The outrageous opinion piece of July 23, 2010 by Rep. Mike Honda and Rosario Dawson demands a response to each of their four reasons:

    1. The constitutionality of SB 1070 is dubious. Maybe, but the intent to protect the citizens of Arizona by using Federal Law language cannot be faulted. SB 1070 would not have happened if the Federal Government would enforce the law as it stands.

    2. Arizona’s attempt to fix immigration is financially unsound. Again-Arizona is NOT attempting to fix immigration, it is attempting to provide a safe environment for its citizens-something the Federal Government has FAILED to do. Yes I can imagine what would happen if all illegal aliens were sent packing-Lower crime, no busted budgets for school districts, local and state governments. The Gross domestic product would increase by $10 trillion during the next 10 years. You can’t prove your loss number and I can’t prove my increase number, so both amounts mean nothing.

    3. SB 1070 is ineffective in accomplishing its super-ordinate goal. Then why is it that illegal aliens are leaving Arizona in large numbers now? Also, if these aliens are undocumented, doesn’t that mean ILLEGAL? Repeating lies that the police will undertake racial profiling does not make it true. Apparently you haven’t read the bill.

    4. The tenor of Arizona’s law takes our nation backward, not forward. Yes-we can only hope if backward means sanity, freedom, jobs, and The American Way. Your vision of forward is the destruction of over 250 years of law abiding. If illegal aliens are required to have the same responsibilities as those who came before them, they are off to a BAD start by breaking the law. By the way- FDR (democrat) initiated the internment camps of WW II.

It was a sad day for the citizens of the State of California when Prop 187 was not implemented because of Grey Davis.

Here is my solution to the illegal alien crisis in a logical order.

    1. Secure the borders with fences and adequate border patrol.

    2. Fine and put out of business any organization hiring or using illegal aliens in the work place. This would create a NO JOB atmosphere for illegal aliens, and they will leave the country. If the anchor babies want to stay, that’s fine, but NO illegal aliens hanging around with them.

    3. Streamline the immigration process for speed and integrity. No line jumping for anyone.

    4. Create a guest worker program with STRONG enforcement.

I could go on for hours, but I am not an activist and I don’t have a government job.
