re: the DREAM ACT,
WHO DROPPED THE THIRD OPTION???
The original Dream Act had three options that a student needed to do at least one to qualify for the Dream Act: 1. Enroll in College or University, 2. Enroll in the Military Service, 3. Enroll in Community Service such as the Peace Corps, or the Red Cross, etc.
During the 2008 Presidential Debates and Campaigns ALL the candidates used to talk about ALL THREE OPTIONS. However, the third options has been missing from all the conversations about the Dream Act, to the point that even some young pro-Dream Act activist and students ignore the fact that the Dream Act has or had a Third Option of Community Service.
Is is extremely important that the THIRD OPTION be immediately re-included in all plans, drafts, conversations, and Laws of the Dream Act; – why?
a)Because the economic reality of the Latino community is dire and in many cases College or University won’t be possible due to the cost. This reality gives these young and promising students only one other option: the military option.
b)The Latino community is already OVER-REPRESENTED in the Military, and the Dream Act will push more young and innocent people into the horrors of wars.
Having an abundance of able bodies will facilitate irresponsibility and rushed decision for wars by the politicians.
c)The Third Option will give these young students the opportunity to serve in extremely important causes that are also important for the country in general, such as serving by working for the Peace Corps, Red Cross, etc.
Dear Town-Hall Hosts, please make this Town Hall an ethical, investigative, journalistic and humanly-fair event, where they you will clear once and for all myths such as the ones that “undocumented immigrants don’t pay taxes”, etc.
Most failed debates and immigration town halls NEVER talk about the REAL causes of forced migration.
PLEASE be different and do the right thing to highlight once and for all the REAL causes of forced migration such as NAFTA, and the added reason for forced migration due to the extreme NARCO-VIOLENCE caused by the U.S. demand for drugs, and by the U.S. export of military style weapons to MX; weapons that land in the power of cartels.
PLEASE talk about the hypocrisy where the US Government issues Danger travel warnings to Mexico, but at the same time forcefully deports to Mexico minors, subjecting them to these same dangers.
Mr. O’Donnell, Ms. Kumar, and Ms. Dawson, is extremely important too that you talk about the terrorizing and devastating effect on good, decent and hard-working families has caused by “criminalization of immigration” . Criminalization of Immigration was created for the only purpose to advance Politicians, and to enrich the pockets of for-profit Private Prison Corporations.
Please make your show worth-wile, factual, and real, investigative about the causes and solutions, and not just about hype, myths, demonizing and scapegoating Latino immigrants.
Talk about the recent exposse’ investigative reports on: the sinister link between Corporate for-profit Private Prisons + corrupted politicians + anti-immigration laws.
