Shangri-La Entertainment Announces Sebastian Gutierrez Feature Film “Girl Walks Into a Bar” to Premiere March 11 Exclusively on YouTube

Lexus Presents First Major Motion Picture Created

Specifically for Web Distribution

Ensemble Cast Includes Carla Gugino, Zachary Quinto, Danny DeVito, Josh Hartnett, Rosario Dawson, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Aaron Tveit, Robert Forster, Amber Valletta, Gil Bellows, Kevin Zegers and Alexis Bledel

LOS ANGELES, February 17, 2011 – Shangri-La Entertainment announced today it has entered into an agreement with YouTube and Lexus to present the Sebastian Gutierrez film “Girl Walks Into a Bar” free, exclusively on YouTube premiering Friday, March 11 at http://www.youtube.com/screeningroom. The presentation marks the first time a major motion picture was created exclusively for Web distribution.

“Girl Walks Into a Bar” will premiere in the YouTube Screening Room, a platform designed to showcase top films from around the world.

“With ‘Girl Walks Into a Bar,’ the cast and crew came together to create something different – a high quality, really fun character-driven film that we could present to audiences for free using a new distribution model,” said Gutierrez. “We found great partners in Lexus and YouTube to support the film while providing us with the stage to draw the largest audience possible.”

“Girl Walks Into a Bar” marks Lexus’ first entry into film presentation, however, it is not the automaker’s first initiative in the entertainment space. In addition to sponsoring and supporting events in the arts and entertainment arena, Lexus created LStudio.com, a broadband channel that features original content, in 2008.

“The movie escapes the confines of traditional film production and is a bold undertaking that is set to transform the film industry,” said Dave Nordstrom, vice president of marketing, Lexus. ”It seems fitting to support this initiative as we launch our most unconfined vehicle yet—the CT 200h hybrid —in a space that we know will reach an unconventional, sophisticated audience.”

“Girl Walks Into A Bar” is a feature-length film that follows a series of characters in interlocking stories taking place in ten different bars during the course of one evening in Los Angeles. By turns funny and heartbreaking, this sharp-witted comedy is written and directed by Sebastian Gutierrez (“Women in Trouble,” “Elektra Luxx”) and is produced by Steve Bing (“The Polar Express,” “Shine A Light”), Richard Rosenblatt and Gutierrez.

Zachary Quinto stars as a dentist who teams up with a feisty would-be assassin (Carla Gugino) to put the final touches on the plan to kill his wife. Once he makes a play for the assassin’s payment, he unknowingly sets off a chain of events that fuels a cross-town journey through the many lounges, bars, strip clubs and the occasional nudist ping pong club scattered across Los Angeles. Along the way, we are introduced to a series of idiosyncratic characters, from pickpocket and gangsters ( Aaron Tveit, Danny DeVito) to exotic dancers (Emmanuelle Chriqui, Alexis Bledel), from ex-cons (Robert Forster) to cops (Josh Hartnett, Gil Bellows), with the odd hatcheck girl (Rosario Dawson) and bartender (Amber Valletta) thrown in for good measure.

The exclusive trailer for “Girl Walks Into a Bar” can be seen on YouTube at: http://www.youtube.com/shangrila

“Girl Walks Into a Bar” is co-produced by Zach Schwartz. The film’s director of photography is Cale Finot and is edited by Lisa Bromwell A.C.E. The film’s music is by Grant Lee Phillips.

When I sat down last week with Rosario Dawson to talk about her new action thriller Unstoppable (which also stars Chris Pine and Denzel Washington), I had no idea it was going to turn into a conversation about Star Trek. But it did. If you didn’t know, Dawson is a huge Trekkie and we spent a bunch of the time talking about how she wants to be in the Star Trek sequel. She even spoke some Klingon. Of course we also talked about making Unstoppable, dressing for premieres and the double standard between men and women, and she talked about her next project called Girl Walks Into a Bar. Hit the jump to watch the interview:

And if you’d like to learn more about Unstoppable, here’s a bunch of clips and the synopsis.

Rosario Dawson

Before the interview began we were talking about the chairs and her shoes…

How when actors are off frame, they are not wearing the clothes you think they are wearing

The double standard of dressing for premieres between men and women

She confirms she is a big Trekkie

Says they would call Chris Pine Kirk on set behind his back

Says she REALLY wants to be in the sequel to Star Trek

How they aren’t a lot of scenes with her and Pine and Denzel Washington

Talks about Girl Walks Into a Bar – her next project

By: Todd McCarthy | Source: Hollywood Reporter,

Director Tony Scott may have missed his mark by a bit on his last cinematic train ride with “The Taking of Pelham One Two Three,” but he hits his target dead-on in “Unstoppable.” The best blue collar action movie in who knows how long, this tense, narrowly focused thriller about a runaway freight train has a lean and pure simplicity to it that is satisfying in and of itself.

But in its incidental portrait of discontented and discounted working stiffs who live marginal lives on society’s sidings and are angry to varying degrees, the film carries an unexpected weight and could connect with Middle American audiences in a big way.

Arriving so soon after the Nov. 2 elections, Unstoppable would seem to uncannily embody the mood reflected in the results; life seems fractured and out of joint, there’s a testiness in the way people relate to one another, friction between classes is worse than before and the future looks bleak. And yet one senses an innate, underlying optimism; perhaps the nation is down, but it should never be counted out, with the film suggesting that the common people can deliver the goods as they always have.

None of this was likely intended as the raison d’etre of Mark Bomback’s screenplay, but it massively strengthens the film Scott has made for anyone who cares to notice. First and foremost, however, it’s a crackling rip-snorter in which the moans, groans, sparking metal and sheer force of the train produce an intense visceral reaction for nearly the full 99-minute running time.

Inspired by a real story from 2001 of a 47-car train carrying toxic molten phenol acid that left the yard without an engineer on board and charged through Ohio for more than two hours before it was boarded and brought under control, the script features working class characters who are uniformly pissed off and carry their bad attitudes to work.

On this given day in central Pennsylvania, Will (Chris Pine), a young man whose wife has obtained a restraining order against him, is assigned as conductor on a freight run with veteran engineer Frank (Denzel Washington), whose college-age daughters work at Hooters but who otherwise keeps his problems to himself. Will’s youth and family political connections do nothing to endear him to Frank’s circle of grizzled veterans at the train yard, where morale seems very low indeed.

In fact, it is incompetence and a cavalier “whatever” attitude that triggers the crisis when a slovenly, overweight engineer (Ethan Suplee) hops off his cab to reset a switch and then can’t catch up as his train (on which the air brakes also happen to be disconnected) rolls out of the yard. There’s a bit of cheap suspense as the “coaster,” as the runaway is initially called, is on a collision course with a trainload of school children but, once that’s averted, the suspense and excitement build without distraction or pause.

Under full power, the hard-charging train becomes “a missile,” in the words of train traffic manager Connie (Rosario Dawson), who tries to keep track of where the train is and how catastrophe can be avoided in the short term. Her boss Galvin (Kevin Dunn) must ultimately decide on whether or not to derail the train, but it’s headed to more populated areas where the explosion of toxic cargo could prove devastating. Before long the incident is picked up by TV news (Fox, of course) and police choppers fly overhead.

On their run in the vicinity, Frank and Will become involved in the pursuit and various schemes are tried: Putting engines in front of the runaway to gradually slow it down, then pulling an engine up from behind to connect so as to drag the long train to slower speeds. But the most breathtaking sequence involves attempting to lower a Marine from a helicopter by cable down onto the runaway while both are doing 75 mph. Just when you think things might be okay, they’re not, and the train — and the film — keep charging ahead to the outstanding finale.

Scott doesn’t show any moves that he hasn’t used before; the desaturated images, jumpy camerawork, abrupt cuts, spare and jokey dialogue exchanges and relentless forward movement are all things he’s done for years. But here everything is stripped down to its essence and placed in the service of creating a piece that’s virtually wall-to-wall action with no distraction.

Adding to the film’s effectiveness is the essential credibility of both the mechanics and the setting. No matter how many or how few visual effects were used, what’s onscreen all looks absolutely real, giving the appearance of actual trains running on actual tracks and causing actual mayhem on assorted gritty locations throughout Pennsylvania and Ohio that provide a vivid, extensive look at America’s Rust Belt. In the staging, shooting and editing, this is a superbly orchestrated movie.

Even though they are only sketched in with the quickest of brush strokes, the sadness and limitations of the characters’ lives are made indelibly clear. Underlying everything is an anger and frustration born of neglect and a sense of the world passing these people by. For those disposed to looking for metaphors and hidden sociological content in overtly commercial cinema, Unstoppable provides a term paper’s worth of content; the characters here don’t know how to articulate it, but there’s a rage that seems prone to one day express itself by throwing over the oppressive, ill-run apparatus that governs so much of their lives (management, government, judges, you name it). You can take it or leave it, but this stuff is here.

Only somewhat more central to the action than the other actors, Washington and Pine spar with enjoyable attitude and humor, and character actors like Suplee, Galvin, David Warshofsky (as Frank’s seasoned colleague) and Lew Temple, wonderful as a hopped-up rail employe bent on saving the day, bring plentiful color to this brawny, bruising ride that lives up to its title by accelerating from the very beginning and not letting up until the very end.

Rosario Dawson discusses stunts, acting with Denzel, Sin City 2 and superheroes.

No Stunt Envy for Rosario Dawson

Rosario Dawson insists she wasn’t jealous that she didn’t get to join in the action with Denzel Washington and Chris Pine on their new movie Unstoppable. “I did my own stunts… [which was mostly] running to my phone,” she joked at the film’s LA premiere. She added: “It was amazing, I lunged!”

The film is based on the true story of a runaway train carrying hazardous chemicals, and sees the two men running along top of the moving freighters. While the two men’s characters attempt to halt the train, Rosario’s character staffs a control desk trying to avert them from disaster.

“I really had an amazing time on this,” she said. “The boys got to do a lot of the action but I made sure I played the frustration for Connie, she’s always throwing her hair up and you see her wanting to be more places than she could be. She went on: “I hold it down in the control room, I did as much action as I possibly could!”

Rosario Dawson says working with a man dubbed ‘White Denzel’ on Unstoppable made her “crack up”.

The beautiful actress and Denzel Washington both appear in the thriller, which tells the tale of an unmanned, half-mile-long freight train filled with dangerous liquids which goes on a city rampage.

Rosario was disappointed that her only scenes with Denzel’s character took place on the telephone, and she was actually talking to a white actor who can imitate Denzel’s voice perfectly.

“It’s all on the phone and it was this guy that sounds just like Denzel that they also used on The Taking Of Pelham 123,” the actress told Total Film magazine.

“He’s this great actor but he’s white, so it always cracked us up because he’d just give it to you Denzel-style. Then he’d walk off and you’d be like, ‘Oh, you’re white. How do you do that?’” she laughed.

Rosario was in another movie with Denzel in 1998 – He Got Game – although she still hasn’t actually shared the screen with him for a long scene. The talented star hopes the next film they make together will allow them to work more closely.

“It’s hysterical because this is the second movie that I’ve done with him and both times we only had one scene together. One day it would be really nice to do a movie where we’re actually on screen at the same time. He wasn’t even in the same city as me,” she lamented.

At this point in the “Sin City 2″ news cycle, it’s not too much of a stretch to say that we’ve heard it all before. Robert Rodriguez can’t wait to start! All the cast members are ready to go! Etc., etc. Still, we have hope! And it doesn’t stop us asking key participants like Rosario Dawson what they’ve heard about a possible start date.

Movie Trailers – Movies Blog

“I have not heard very much except that Robert [Rodriguez] is still insistent that we’re going to make it and we’re going to make sure to put something in there for Brittany [Murphy] to recognize her,” the “Unstoppable” actress revealed. “Unfortunately it’s been so long now and she’s not with us anymore and she was a huge integral part to that first film, it would be important to do that.”

“I’m even more inspired to get it done now,” she added.

With the actors, filmmakers and fans all on board for the long-delayed, much-discussed potential sequel to Robert Rodriguez’s 2005 adaptation of Frank Miller’s celebrated comic book noir, the sticking points likely involve studio dollars and scheduling.

Particularly for Rodriguez, who just came off “Machete” and is currently in the midst of “Spy Kids 4,” and constantly mentioned in the continuing “Deadpool” discussions. Nevertheless, he has insisted that it will never be too late for a “Sin City 2.”

“No, never, but I just don’t want to wait that long,” he said. “I know Frank doesn’t want to wait that long.”
