Rosario Dawson Moving to Vegas

Rosario Dawson was looking for a change of scenery and a new home, but{nl}couldn’t decide between a couple of different cities. So, she picked{nl}both.{nl}”I’m moving to Vegas and London in the next couple of months,”{nl}the actress and current Los Angeles resident said Thursday at the{nl}Latino Leaders Network luncheon in Washington, D.C., part of the{nl}Hispanic Heritage Awards.{nl}Dawson, 28, who founded a get-out-the-vote organization called{nl}Voto Latino, attended the luncheon with her mother and grandmother.{nl}Afterward, all three were set to jet back to L.A. “They’re going to{nl}help me pack,” Dawson explained.{nl}Why London, first of all?{nl}”It’s an incredible hub,” Dawson explained. “I’m going to be{nl}right next to the Paris train. I love it. I’m a big traveler. I can get{nl}to Rome in two hours. And Scotland and Ireland.” Plus, she added, “I{nl}feel like it’s time to live outside the country.”{nl}Well, not completely outside. Dawson is also drawn to Las{nl}Vegas. “My friend is hooking me up,” she said. “My brother said he{nl}would live out there if I got an apartment.”{nl}But it’s politics, not the party scene, that attracts Dawson{nl}to Sin City. The presidential caucus there has been moved up, she{nl}points out, and is now slotted between Iowa and New Hampshire, giving{nl}it newfound power. “It’s an up-and-coming state!” she says.{nl}Still, no matter how much she travels, or how many cities she lives in, Dawson says she’ll never be that far from family.{nl}”The Latino community is about the family,” she says. “You can{nl}get really lost, and you lose touch. But if you’re with your family,{nl}they can say, ‘Come on, I … changed your diapers.’ “{nl}Wilmer Valderrama, who served as the keynote speaker, joined Dawson at the Latino Leaders Network luncheon.{nl}He told the crowd: “As a fellow Latino and a fellow citizen of{nl}the U.S., it is an incredible pleasure to have a platform to tell you{nl}… you are entitled to reinvent the wheel.”People{nl}{nl}

Partying, Seriously: At Hispanic Heritage Awards

Rosario Dawson’s mother is directing photographers. Isabel Celeste is an avalanche of a woman, all spilling and tumbling out of her sequined top in a way that makes you want to say, Aye , Madre, and she sees that the red-carpet paparazzi, who have lined up to snap her actress daughter’s photo at last night’s Hispanic Heritage Awards, aren’t getting the best shots. So Isabel Celeste slings an arm around Rosario and another around Rosario’s grandma, Isabel Stokoli. “Look left,” she says. “And center. And right. And again.” Dawson rolls her eyes. Latina mamas. What are you going to do?Dawson was one of the five honorees at these 21st annual awards, held at Washington’s Renaissance Marriott. The purpose? To honor Big Names among Hispanics for work in education, sports, science, the arts and for the alluring-sounding “vision.” Dawson is Vision (and a vision herself in slinky gray silk), recognized for founding Voto Latino, an organization dedicated to increasing voter registration among young Hispanics. ….But for the most part, the night is about fun, most gamely demonstrated by the surprise stars of the evening: Pitbull and Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.), who together present the vision award to Dawson.Sanchez cracks that she never expected to be giving out an award with a Pitbull, leading the rapper to mock-bite her before saying, “I heard that was your nickname in the Judiciary Committee.”She blushes, then offers a line that brings down the house: ” Aye, Papi!” And then the luminous Rosario Dawson walks onstage to accept her award, and jokes, “I knew we were going to get an Aye, Papi sometime tonight.” Washington Post{nl}{nl}

Interview with You Magazine

Rosario Dawson, the sexy, feisty actress who starred in Sin City, isn’t{nl}afraid to take risks – and she has survived running with the bulls in{nl}Pamplona to prove it. Appropriately, her latest film is Quentin{nl}Tarantino’s Death Proof.{nl}{nl}When Rosario Dawson turns up to meet me at her favourite deli in{nl}Venice, California, I don’t immediately recognise her in her modest{nl}blue dress.{nl}{nl}Where is the actress who wore a thin strip of leather and fishnet{nl}stockings as a prostitute in Sin City? Or who played Colin Farrell’s{nl}wild bride in Alexander?{nl}{nl}But beneath the disguise she’s right there, the Rosario who has never{nl}developed a self-censor button, with her striking mixture of Puerto{nl}Rican, Cuban, African American, Native American and Irish ancestry.{nl}{nl}{nl}“Hello,” she says.{nl}{nl}“I want to get a beer.” Why not? It’s 2pm, the sun is pounding down and{nl}Rosario has been up for hours, trying to readjust to California time.(continue the article by clicking read more)

Dawson makes partner in ‘Gemini’ unit

Dawson is not a stranger to the sci-fi genre. She created the comic book{nl}”Occult Crimes Taskforce” and is developing a feature based on it with{nl}the Weinstein Co., to which she is attached to star and produce. “We{nl}were kindred spirits,” Rogow said. “She is a really strong creative{nl}talent, and we are happy to have her as part of the team.” Rogow{nl}– a prolific producer of children’s series whose credits include{nl}”Lizzie McGuire,” “State of Grace” and “Shannon’s Deal” — teamed with{nl}game writer Friedman (“Command & Conquer: Tiberium Wars”) and{nl}former TV and film executive Sagansky a year and a half ago to pursue{nl}entertainment opportunities in the digital world. He never looked back. “I{nl}can’t think about doing anything that would start in the traditional TV{nl}model,” he said. “It’s so interesting to start an idea on the Internet;{nl}it’s an opportunity to interact with your audience in a different way,{nl}to build fan base. It’s a new creative form and a new business model.” Last{nl}week, Dawson signed on for DreamWorks’ thriller “Eagle Eye.” The{nl}actress, who most recently appeared in Quentin Tarantino’s “Death{nl}Proof” of the double feature “Grindhouse,” can be seen onscreen in{nl}”Descent,” the first film produced under her production banner, Trybe{nl}Films. ComingSoon.net Interviews Rosario and Talia

For the last five or six years, Rosario Dawson has been an actress{nl}to watch, having stolen many a movie with her beauty and talent, movies{nl}like Rent and Kevin Smith’s Clerks II and Quentin Tarantino’s segment from Grindhouse.{nl}For her new movie Descent, she has taken a new role, that{nl}of producer, teaming with Talia Lugacy, a young New York filmmaker with{nl}lots of ideas and attitude, to tell a hard-edged story about betrayal{nl}and revenge. In the movie, Dawson plays Maya, a smart and pretty{nl}college co-ed who is raped on a date with a football player, and after{nl}dropping out of school and getting into a world of drugs before finding{nl}a way to get revenge and closure for what happened. It’s probably{nl}Dawson’s toughest and edgiest roles to date, allowing her to show a{nl}wide range of emotions as a character who goes through an amazing{nl}transformation.{nl}ComingSoon.net recently sat down with Dawson, writer/director Talia{nl}Lugacy and a bunch of other journalists to grill them on the mindset{nl}that went into making this far-too-real drama.{nl}ComingSoon.net: Where did you two first meet?{nl}Talia Lugacy: In an acting class actually, this{nl}place called “Lee Strasburg.” I was there because I was dying to be a{nl}director and I couldn’t get into film school ’cause I was too young, so{nl}I just went in there to check out what the actors were up to, so I{nl}could gather from that, and she was in class, and I wasn’t talking to{nl}anybody and she just kind of walked up and introduced herself to me and{nl}we’ve sort of been best friends ever since. I still don’t know why you{nl}do that.{nl}Rosario Dawson: She had this great T-shirt that came{nl}down to her knees, this Stanley Kubrick T-shirt, “A Clockwork Orange,”{nl}an image of the actual poster of it, but it looked like a full-size{nl}poster on her body while she was walking around. It was interesting{nl}because people in my neighborhood do a lot of advertising for free.{nl}(laughter) In this particular instance, I was like “Kubrick? Nice! How{nl}old are you?” I liked her immediately. She was just sitting there{nl}grumbling and I put my hand out and said “Hi!” and she looked at it for{nl}a while, like “Really?” I’m like, “Wow, I like you already! How does{nl}that work?”{nl}Lugacy: I didn’t know what to do in that moment.( to continue click read more)
